Understanding Egg Group Connections

The Pokemon breeding system divides all breedable species into 15 egg groups. Many Pokemon belong to two groups simultaneously, and these dual-group Pokemon act as bridges that connect otherwise isolated groups. The connection matrix above shows exactly how many Pokemon bridge each pair.

Why Egg Group Bridges Matter

When a target Pokemon needs an egg move from a species in a different egg group, you must find a bridge Pokemon that belongs to both groups. For example, a Pokemon in both the Monster and Water 1 groups can pass moves between those two populations. The more bridge Pokemon exist between two groups, the more breeding chain options you have.

The 15 Egg Groups

  • Breedable groups (13) -- Monster, Water 1, Water 2, Water 3, Bug, Flying, Field, Fairy, Grass, Human-Like, Mineral, Amorphous, and Dragon
  • Ditto -- breeds with any breedable Pokemon but cannot pass egg moves
  • No Eggs -- includes most Legendaries, Mythicals, and baby Pokemon; cannot breed at all

Click any cell in the matrix to see the exact bridge Pokemon connecting those two groups. Click an egg group button to view all its members and which other groups it connects to.
