How Pokemon Evolve
Evolution methods go well beyond simple leveling. The games use level-up, trade, friendship, evolution stones, held items, location, time of day, known moves, and special conditions like holding the console upside down (Inkay) or having rain in the overworld (Sliggoo). Some methods were introduced in later generations, meaning older Pokemon gained new evolution branches over time.
Branching Evolutions
Eevee holds the record with 8 branching evolutions, each requiring a different method -- stones, friendship by time of day, or proximity to special lure modules.
