How the playthrough planner works

Building a team blind and hitting a wall at the fourth gym is a rite of passage, but it does not have to be. This planner supports 9 game series from Red/Blue through Scarlet/Violet, and scores your team of up to 6 Pokémon against every gym leader and Elite Four member based on type matchups.

What the tool analyzes

  • Gym progression ledger: for each gym, the tool counts how many team members have STAB super-effective moves against the gym's type, and how many are weak to it. Battles are rated from Easy to Very hard.
  • Overall team score (0-100): averages your matchup performance across all gym and E4 fights. A score of 50 means neutral; higher means your team has favorable coverage throughout.
  • Offensive STAB coverage: shows which of the 18 types your team can hit super-effectively with same-type attack bonus moves.
  • Defensive weakness stacking: flags types that threaten 3 or more team members, a sign of a dangerous blind spot.

Pokémon are filtered by generation so you only see species actually available in your chosen game. The type weakness matrix gives a complete 18-type defensive breakdown for your full team at a glance.

Note: scoring is based on gym specialty types only. Individual leader teams, abilities, and coverage moves affect actual difficulty, and full leader team data is planned for a future update.
