How the Pokémon similarity finder works
Pick any Pokémon from the full roster of 1,025 and this tool ranks every other species by how closely it matches. The algorithm scores similarity across four weighted dimensions, and you control the weight of each one with adjustable sliders.
The four similarity factors
- Stat Shape (default 40%): Cosine similarity on BST-normalized stats. Two Pokémon score high here when they distribute stats in the same pattern, regardless of overall power level.
- Type Effectiveness Profile (default 30%): Compares 18-dimensional defensive vectors. Pokémon with matching resistances, weaknesses, and immunities rank closely, even if their actual types differ.
- BST Proximity (default 20%): Measures how close two Pokémon are in total base stats, keeping matches within a similar power tier.
- Type Match (default 10%): Awards a bonus for sharing the same types, since same-type Pokémon often learn overlapping moves and fill similar team roles.
Practical uses
Looking for a replacement when your favorite is unavailable in a particular game? Max out Stat Shape to find stat-spread twins. Need a Pokémon that walls the same threats? Crank Type Profile to 100% and find defensive equivalents across completely different typings.
Reading the table
The six cells on the right of each row are the per-stat deltas against your target: green where the twin is stronger, red where it is weaker, and the deeper the tint the bigger the gap. Sort by any of those six stats from the column heads, tick the box on a row to stack it against the target on the side by side board, or click the row itself to pivot the whole search onto that Pokémon.
