The level 80 XP curve

Niantic raised the trainer level cap from 50 to 80 in October 2025 and rebalanced every level on the way. Level 40 now takes 3,953,000 total XP and level 50 takes 12,753,000, far less than before, while the climb to 80 needs 203,353,000. Everyone kept their XP when the curve changed, so most long-time players jumped levels overnight.

The game shows your progress as XP into the current level, so enter that number with your level and the calculator adds the totals. The days estimate is a straight line at your daily XP; events with double XP or a Lucky Egg session move it a lot. An evolution is worth 500 XP, or 1,000 under a Lucky Egg, which is why cheap evolutions like Pidgey and Weedle are the classic way to burn one.

XP isn't the only gate past 40. Levels above 40 also come with level-up research tasks, and a Pokémon can only be powered up to 10 levels above your own, so a level 50 Pokémon needs a trainer at level 40 or higher.
