Every level takes two power-ups, and each one costs Stardust and Candy at a price set by the level the Pokémon is on now. The price climbs in steps, from 200 Stardust at level 1 to 15,000 near level 50, and from level 40 the Candy is replaced by Candy XL. Taking a Pokémon from 40 to 50 alone costs 250,000 Stardust and 296 Candy XL.
Shadow Pokémon pay 20% more Stardust and Candy on every power-up and purified Pokémon pay 10% less, each rounded up, which is why a Shadow costs 270,000 Stardust from 20 to 40 against 225,000 for a normal one. Lucky Pokémon, which only come from trades, pay half the Stardust and the same Candy.
Reading a level off the price works because each price covers a run of levels: if the power-up button shows 2,500 Stardust, the Pokémon is between level 19 and 20.5. The table above lists every run.
