Pokémon coverage solver

Instead of guessing at type coverage by trial and error, this solver tests every legal combination from a Pokémon's actual learnset and tells you which 4 move types hit the most opponents super-effectively. It scores against the 162 mono and dual type combinations that real Pokémon actually have, so a hole against Water/Ground or Steel/Fairy shows up even when all 18 single types look covered.

The average Pokémon learns 77 moves, but outliers like Mew can learn up to 375. Manually comparing all possible type groupings from a pool that large would take hours. The solver does it in milliseconds.

How the solver works

  • Loads the Pokémon's full learnset and keeps only damaging moves, skipping self-KO moves like Explosion and one-hit KO moves
  • Picks the best move per type by effective power: base power weighted by accuracy, STAB, the Pokémon's stronger attacking stat, and a penalty for charge or recharge turns, so Thunderbolt beats Thunder and Body Slam beats Explosion
  • Generates all C(n, 4) combinations of unique attacking types
  • Scores each combination against every type combination that appears in the dex, counting super-effective, neutral, resisted, and immune matchups
  • Ranks by super-effective count first, then by total "at least neutral" coverage

Generation filtering

Not every move is available in every game. Use the generation filter to restrict results to moves your Pokémon can actually learn in a specific title - from Gen 1 (Red/Blue) through Gen 9 (Scarlet/Violet). The filter also applies that generation's historical move data, so power, accuracy, and even type reflect the era where they changed between games. Coverage is scored against the current 18-type chart.
